INTRODUCTION

The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service has five (5) main youth skills training centres, namely; Berg Aukas Youth Skills Training Centre in Otjozondjupa region, Kai//ganaxab Youth Skills Training Centre in Hardap, Frans Dimbare Youth Skills Training Centre in Kavango-East, Okahao Youth Skills Training Centre in Omusati region and Farm Du Plessis Youth Skills Training Centre in Omaheke region.

These training centres were established to impart skills to out-of-school and unemployed young people who do not meet the basic entry requirements of conventional Vocational Training Centres. Young people enrolled at these skills training centres are trained in various trades in order to become employable or self-employed using the acquired skills.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To recognize education and training as a lifelong process and emphasize the needs for quality education and training that is relevant so that all young people are socially and economically productive towards national development.
  • To improve access and opportunities for skills and entrepreneurship training for young people.
  • To involve private sector in the education training sector.
  • To establish and promote alternative modes of training for out of school learners and equip them with relevant skills for labour market and self-employment.
  • To emphasize the needs of quality education

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

  • Out of school youth and unemployed youth.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

  • Application forms can be obtained at any youth offices/centres countrywide or at regional council offices.

METHOD OF PAYMENT

  • A once off tuition fee of N$ 300 to N$ 700 is payable upon registration.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

  • This is a one (1) year face to face programme.

KAI//GANAXAB YOUTH SKILLS TRAINING CENTRE

The centre is located 12 km west outside Mariental.

The centre is located 15 km outside Grootfontein on the road to Rundu.

Namibia Youth Credit Scheme Namibia Youth Credit Scheme

Namibian Youth Credit Scheme (NYCS) is a loan guarantee programme aimed at providing financial support to youth that do not have adequate collateral to access loans from the mainstream banking system. It targets Namibian youth between the ages of 18 and 35 years and the loans offered ranges from N$ 2 000 – N$ 20 000. The programme operates through an individual and group lending system respectively. NYCS provides training to beneficiaries in basic management practices, access to credit, follow-up training, counselling and mentoring of beneficiaries.

Any Namibian youth between the ages of 18 – 35, who wishes to establish their own business and would like to be trained in Business Management may contact Regional offices, Youth Centres.

Youth Friendly Clinics Youth Friendly Clinics

INTRODUCTION

The Youth and Reproductive Health programme mainly responds to young people’s sexual and reproductive health needs by increasing young people’s knowledge and skills towards adoption of protective sexual behaviours and provision of sexual and reproductive health services. The programme is executed in collaboration with Namibia Planned Parenthood Association (NAPPA) and has culminated in the establishment of Youth Friendly Clinics at various regional ministerial offices.

CLINICAL SERVICES INCLUDE

  • Family planning services (oral and injections)
  • Emergency Family planning (Morning – After pill)
  • HIV testing and counselling
  • Ante – Natal Care (ANC)
  • Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs) Screening and Treatment
  • Pre and Post Abortion Counselling Services
  • Referral services to health facilities

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE INFORMATION ON

  • Life Skills Education
  • Comprehensive Sexuality Education
  • Condom and Femidom   demonstration for correct usage and disposal

OPERATIONAL HOURS

  • Monday – Friday: 08h00 am to 17h00 pm

  • 3 months
  • Once off payment of N$ 150

  • Operational hours: 2 hours per group

Tailoring classes

  • 6 months
  • Once off payment of N$ 300
  • 16 – 35 years
  • Weekdays
  • Operational hours: 08h00 – 13h00

Gym

  • Unemployed youth – N$ 25 per month
  • Employed youth – N$ 50 per month
  • 16 – 35 years

  • Operational hours: 08h00 – 17h00
